Benjamin W. Powers

Ben is a fourth generation Phoenician and graduate of Arizona State University with a BS in History. After six years as an investment advisor, Ben moved to the non-profit sector where he spent 10 years as Director of Development and Summer Programs Director at the Orme School near Mayer, Arizona. Prior to joining Powers Young & Company in 2000, Ben was the Director of Gift and Estate Planning for the John C. Lincoln Health Foundation.

Ben has successfully served non-profit organizations representing the arts, secondary and higher education, human services and healthcare. Ben has conducted numerous board development and strategic planning seminars, including those for the Sun Angel Foundation, Arthritis Foundation, DrugFree AZ, and the Arizona Chapter of the ALS Association.

Ben is immediate past president of the Greater Arizona Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and was a founding member of the Arizona Leave a Legacy ® Initiative. He has served on the board of the Orme School of Arizona. He is a certified horse pack & trail guide, former desert mountain survival instructor and professional musician. He and his wife Joan live in Phoenix with their two children.

NOTABLE PROJECTS

  • Provided counsel for the $23 million World Class Zoo for a World Class City campaign for the Phoenix Zoo
  • Co-directed the UPWARD for Children and Families $5.2 million campaign to fund a new campus for special needs children and young adults
  • Directed the first $3.5 million campaign to expand the Great Hearts Academies network of charter schools, and additional campaigns in 2014 for campuses in North Scottsdale and Litchfield Park
  • Directed the Valley of the Sun YMCA’s $9.1 million campaign to construct a new branch in the community of Maryvale, and an additional $400,000 effort to transform the old Maryvale Library into the Maryvale Early Childhood and Education Center
  • Directed a successful $5.2 million campaign to expand and renovate the campus of Bourgade Catholic High School
  • Completed a $4 million children’s endowment campaign and implemented a successful and ongoing planned giving program at John C. Lincoln Hospital
